To improve hygiene, hospitals and medical facilities should use aerators in their faucets, which prevent unnecessary water splashes and the resulting spread of bacteria. Recommendations for healthcare facilities
Neoperl has carried out various laboratory tests in recent years in cooperation with the Ruhr District Institute of Hygiene and the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine.
Using the results obtained, the German Consulting Centre for Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control (BZH) in Freiburg/Breisgau has compiled an expert assessment, which allows us to recommend the following:
1. Use of faucet aerators
In medical facilities, faucet aerators help to prevent unnecessary water splashes. This means they reduce the risk of pathogens being transmitted.
2. Laminar rather than aerated
We recommend the use of laminar faucet aerators. These almost completely prevent the intake and distribution of contaminated aerosol particles.
3. Regular replacement
Various environmental factors can lead to the formation of a biofilm on faucet aerators, which requires to replace them. Our four-color concept helps remind users to replace the aerators at the right times.
Regular replacement thanks to simple color concept
From a hygiene point of view, it is advisable to regularly replace faucet aerators in hospitals and medical facilities. NEOPERL hygiene faucet aerators have a simple color concept to help you remember to do this.
The hygiene faucet aerators come in four different colors: blue, red, yellow, and green.
Each color represents a replacement cycle. This means it is easy to recognize and monitor whether replacement is taking place regularly and correctly. The replacement interval must be individually defined within a healthcare facility (hospital/care home), as water quality affects the microbiological contamination of the aerator.
Only suitably hygienic and verified materials are used for the hygiene faucet aerators, in line with the evaluation criteria for products in contact with drinking water (KTW-BWGL).
Find the right model
NEOPERL hygiene faucet aerators are designed not to draw in air, which results in a clear laminar stream that reduces spray and aerosol formation. This minimizes the risk of infection by legionella or pseudomonas bacteria.
Below is an overview of our hygiene faucet aerators. They are available in the two common sizes M22 and M24.
CLINIC Snap Honeycomb
This aerator comes in two parts and consists of an insert and an adapter that only needs to be fixed to the faucet once. This enables tool-free replacement of the aerator.
CLINIC SNAP NEOSTRAHL
The CLINIC Snap Neostrahl consists of an inner part and an adapter that is mounted once on the faucet and enables quick replacement. The aerator offers a high flow rate and is particularly suitable for low-pressure applications.
HONEYCOMB Clinic
This hygiene aerator comes with a flow restrictor. At a pressure of 3 bar, it limits the water flow rate to approx. 7.5 – 9.0 l/min in order to prevent contamination through splashing water.
NEOSTRAHL Clinic
This stream shaper is especially suitable for non-pressurized water heaters in facilities with high hygiene requirements.
